As Catholics, we ought to judge our garden by the flowers – never by the leaves that fall. We should count our days by golden hours, not by the clouds that have passed by. Let us count our nights by stars, not shadows. We should count our age by friends, not years.
That is the joy of the Catholic faith, which we profess. Following the wisdom of St. Ignatius of Loyola, we should pray for generosity and joy of heart:
Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve.
To give and not to count the cost;
To fight and not to heed the wounds;
To toil and not to seek for rest;
To labor and not to ask for any reward
Save that of knowing that we do thy will.
